David John Newman, age 59, passed away Nov 16.
Born Nov 30, 1943 in Newburg, OR to Ross Edwin and Bonita Wilma Slyter Newman. Convert to the LDS church. Vietnam Veteran. Retired from Dixie College, specializing in computer satellite communications.
He was known as Chief Talking Turtle of the Black Ridge Band in So. Utah of the Same'Naqwase'Nom Nation.
Survived by one son: Ross of OR; three daughters: Melissa of Utah; Nita of OR; and Marnie of NV; one stepson, Michael and one stepdaughter, Gerri of Utah; 27 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one brother, Ron of Montana; and one sister Shellie of OR.
Talking Turtle will be missed by all who knew him.
Private family services were held at an earlier time.
