Salt Lake-based Big-D Corp. has purchased and will restore the W.P. Fuller Paint building in downtown Salt Lake City.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Once renovated, the 65,000-square-foot historical building will become the new headquarters for the construction firm's 105 management employees.
The W.P. Fuller Paint building, at 400 South and 400 West, was built in 1922 as a warehouse for paint and glass, but it has remained vacant for most of the past 50 years, said Jack Livingood, Big-D's chief executive officer, in a prepared statement.
"This building has been waiting 50 years for someone to bring new life into it," Livingood said. "Now is the time for that second life."
Work on the building will include replacing existing electrical, mechanical, heating and air-conditioning systems. New windows will be added. A glass atrium will be constructed in the center of the building, and the exterior will be restored to its original ochre color.
Big-D has completed several downtown projects, including work on The Gateway, Marriott City Center, the Salt Lake library, Scott M. Matheson Courts complex, Alphagraphics worldwide headquarters and the Wallace F. Bennett Federal Building.
Big-D employs 300 people in 11 states and has offices outside Salt Lake in Ogden; Jackson, Wyo.; and Pleasanton, Calif.
