KAYSVILLE<! >
- In loving memory of Dee Ostler Howell, 81, who passed away peacefully April 25, 2003.
He was born, Aug 26, 1921 in Nephi, UT son of Alva Willis Howell and Susie Ostler Howell. He married Barbara Welcker, March 29, 1944 in the Cardston Alberta, Canada LDS Temple. They have been sweethearts for 59 years. He graduated from South High in 1940 and served an LDS Mission in the Northwestern States in 1941. World War II found him as a Group Sergeant Major for 27 months, in the 41st Bom-bardment Group, 7th Air Force, Pacific Theater.
He worked for Associated Food Stores, Inc. as their Produce Director for 33 years. Under his direction his department received the highest rating issued by the Blue Book of the industry which rates all produce operations nationwide for integrity, credibility and general operations. This rating was held during all of his tenure with Associated Foods. He also served as a Director for three years on the Board of the United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association of America.
His love for golf, fishing, skiing, basketball (high school and Air Force championship teams) and gardening, were passions he followed all his life until his declining health made it impossible. He was a great speaker and humorist and was the master of ceremonies for many occasions. He also played Santa Claus for many company parties. Dee was always a people person, and the loyalty of his business friends and employees was incredible.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Richard Dee (Shauna); daughters, Cathy Palmer, Jody Watts (Bill), Dee-Ann Colbree (Brian); 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
We cherish our fond memories with our special husband, father and grandpa.
