OGDEN — Terrance Scott Gallegos pleaded guilty and was immediately sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for the abduction-rape of a 12-year-old newspaper carrier.
The victim's mother said her daughter has bounced back, maintaining straight-A grades, interacting normally with her brothers and sisters — and continuing her newspaper route.
The girl still delivers newspapers to the house where she was attacked. The house is still occupied by Gallegos' wife and children.
She was on her route last June when Gallegos called to her about getting a subscription.
Prosecutors said he dragged her into the home, bound her arms behind her back with an electrical cord and blindfolded and gagged her with socks before sexually assaulting her.
Gallegos pleaded guilty Tuesday before 2nd District Judge Pamela Heffernan and asked to be sentenced immediately.
Asked why, Gallegos said, "I'm tired of Weber County. They don't treat their inmates (well)."
Defense attorney John Caine said his client has no prior offenses involving violence or sex. "I think the public ought to know that," he said.
DNA evidence clinched the case, with the victim's saliva found on Gallegos sock and his semen found on her clothing, attorneys for both sides said.
