The Nevada Legislature recently allocated funds to allow a committee to begin meeting with Utah legislators by this fall to hammer out details of merging West Wendover, Nev., and Wendover, Utah.

Nevada Republican Sen. Dean Rhoads said his state will spend about $10,000 to further study a merger that could annex up to 10,000 acres of Utah into Nevada. That study will include working closely with Utah officials toward drafting a bill for Congress to pass and then to forward on to residents on both sides of the border for a final vote.

Rhoads called an April 29 meeting in the Legislature to discuss the issue a "slam dunk." He is chairman of the Legislative Committee on Public Lands, from which will emerge a subcommittee that will head up new merger study efforts.
