Wal-Mart Stores Inc. halted sales of three men's magazines after receiving numerous complaints about their sexually suggestive content.
The nation's biggest retailer banned sales of Maxim, Stuff and FHM.
Local stores in Orem, Springville and American Fork received complaints and followed the corporate ban of the magazines, a spokesman for the Orem store said.
"Initially, we carried the magazines in response to customer demand, but we have had customers around the country that have consistently been telling us they are uncomfortable with us carrying these magazines," said Wal-Mart spokesman Tom Williams.
After balancing the interests of two different customer sets, Wal-Mart had to make a "judgment call" to stop selling the magazines.
The decision to stop sales of the magazines comes in the wake of a series of moves by the company to limit the distribution of entertainment products considered overly risque. Wal-Mart also does not sell CDs with explicit lyrics.
