A Salt Lake man will spend 15 years in federal prison for his part in a massive drug trafficking ring.

Juan Ramon Olmedo-Cruz, 32, received the sentence Tuesday after pleading guilty earlier this year to operating a continuing criminal enterprise and money laundering.

Olmedo-Cruz admitted in court documents he was a leader in the organization, in which he conspired with others to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana. For example, Olmedo-Cruz said he distributed 250 grams of cocaine at a Salt Lake apartment complex in March 2000 and brought between 4 and 8 kilograms of cocaine from California in April 2000.

Olmedo-Cruz was arrested in June 2000 after a yearlong investigation into the organization. Forty-one people were charged as part of the investigation, which also resulted in a $412,000 forfeiture judgment.
