"Doctor! Doctor!" is described as "the medical musical comedy revue."
The off-Broadway show will have its regional premiere Friday at the Mary G. Steiner Egyptian Theatre, 328 Main St., Park City, where it will continue through Aug. 31.
Ellen Graham, who introduced Utah to the hit revue, "A . . . My Name Is Alice," several years ago, has returned to direct "Doctor! Doctor!"
Her cast includes Victoria Mallory, Bruce Bredeson, Camille van Wagoner and Steven Fehr.
Graham, during a telephone interview from her apartment in Park City, noted that she was excited to "be back again with another fun musical revue. I haven't worked with a single one of these cast members before, but you would pay money to hear them read the telephone book — they are absolutely amazing."
She noted that the show, which was fairly successful in its original off-Broadway run, is new to the area.
"Basically it's a musical revue with a few skits thrown in between, giving them a chance to rest. If you don't like one number, you'll probably like the next. It's wildly entertaining," she said. "It's both off-the-wall and serious. A couple of things are a little naughty, but nothing I couldn't bring my mother to."
After being away from Salt Lake City for several years, she's amazed at the growth in the arts in this area.
"Salt Lake City rivals any city anywhere for the arts," she said. "In Seattle, renowned as one of the country's great 'theater' towns, the big theaters are having huge financial problems; some are cutting their seasons."
The Park City troupe has been struggling as well. ETC's second scheduled play for the summer, a musical version of "Eating Raoul," has been axed.
After "Doctor! Doctor!" opens, Graham will be heading back to Seattle for the annual, two-week Mae West Fest — a festival showcasing original scripts written and directed by women.
Assisting Graham with the Egyptian Theatre Company production are George Maxwell, scenery; Carol Wells-Day, costumes; Peter Willardson, lighting; Steve Barlow, musical director and Brent Schneider, choreography.
Currently, Graham is "more or less based in Seattle," and is also the head of the theater department of Eckerd College, a small liberal arts college in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Performances of "Doctor! Doctor!" are Wednesdays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m., with one performance on July 4 at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $8 to $24. For reservations, call 1-435-649-9371 or 1-888-243-5779.
There will be no performances July 28-Aug. 7.
