The 1st Annual Abracadabra Festival, sponsored by Salem and Spanish For, will be held on the grounds of the Krishna Temple, 311 W. 8500 South, on Main Street between the two cities, today and tomorrow from 4 until dusk with performances of "Aladdin" by UVSC students at 4 and 8 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for children 12-under. There will be puppets, Kismet dancers, a magician and a llama obstacle course along with food for sale.

The Eagle Mountain Pony Express Days Chess Tournament will be held at Pony Express Elementary School, 3985 Smith Ranch Road. The tournament is open to all chess players with five different sections for kindergarten through adults. USCF membership not required. Entrance fee is $6 if pre-registered before Wednesday or $10 at the door. Proceeds will be donated to the Pony Express Elementary School. Play will be determined by grade in school 2002-2003. The annual Provo River Trail Scenic 10- and 5-mile runs start at the top of South Fork Canyon and conclude at the Riverwoods parking lot. A bus will pick up runners at 6:30 a.m. to ferry them up to the canyon. The races start at 7 a.m. Register at www.trailrun.com. Fee is $25.
