A Utah State Prison inmate hung himself in his cell Wednesday, according to a Department of Corrections press release.

The Deseret Morning News does not print the name of suicide victims.

The man, 49, had been convicted of burglary, a second-degree felony. He was found in his cell by a corrections officer at 4:35 p.m. Wednesday. Efforts to revive him by prison medical staff were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at 4:50 p.m.

An investigation of the incident is being conducted by the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office, the release states.
