1940 ~ 2003

Richard John Hollingshead died July 1, 2003 after a valiant fight with cancer.

He is survived by his wife Marjie Sue Hollingshead, and his children and grandchildren, Jana and Adam Dolgins and their daughter Eliza; Myndi and Max Hasson and their children Koplin, Holden and McKibben; Richard "Buzz" Hollingshead; Brandon Hollingshead and his children, Davy and Aunica; and Jamie Hollingshead. He is also survived by his brothers, Leo, Floyd and Allen. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Stanley Max and James Tom Hollingshead.

Richard was born in Delta, Utah on June 24, 1940. His childhood was spent hunting, fishing and riding horses with his brothers. He attended Earl Warren High School in Downey, California where he set and held the school track record and played football and tennis. Richard served an LDS Mission in the New England States Mission, after which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University. Richard worked as a sales executive for Standard Textile, a healthcare service provider, for 27 years.

Richard enjoyed fishing, golfing, and writing poetry. Above all other activities, he enjoyed serving others. Most recently, he served as 1st counselor in the BYU 91st Ward bishopric.

He is cherished by his family and friends for his extraordinary kindness, humor and generosity. He will be missed.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 7, 2003, at 11:00 a.m., in the Edgemont 11th Ward LDS Chapel, 3050 Mojave Lane, Provo. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Sunday evening, from 6-8 p.m., or Monday morning, at the Ward Chapel, one hour prior to services. Interment, East Lawn Memorial Hills. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Richard's memory to Primary Children's Medical Center Foundation Charity Care Fund, PO Box 58249, Salt Lake City, UT 84158-0249.
