Italian director Mario Monicelli will head the main jury at the Venice Film Festival, scheduled for Aug. 27-Sept. 6.

The Venice 60 jury also includes cinematographer Michael Ballhaus, producer Monty Montgomery, actor Stefano Accorsi, director Ann Hui, writer-director Pierre Jolivet and actress Assumpta Serna, organizers announced Tuesday.

The jury will award a Golden Lion for best film and several Silver Lions.

French historian Laure Adler will head the Upstream jury for more experimental movies. It will award the St. Mark's Prize for best film.

Monicelli, 88, had his greatest successes from the 1950s to 1970s. His movies include 1958's "Big Deal on Madonna Street" and 1959's "The Great War," which won Venice's Golden Lion award that year.
