LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — An eastern Kentucky doctor whose clinic was a major provider of pain killers to addicts in three states was arrested days before his sentencing trying to cross the border into Canada.

Dr. David Procter was arrested Friday while trying to cross the border at Detroit. He was carrying $40,000 in cash and airline tickets with fake names to fly from Canada to the Cayman Islands, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

In April, Procter pleaded guilty to two counts of distributing controlled substances without a legitimate medical purpose and one count of conspiring with others to illegally distribute controlled substances.
