"Seabiscuit" co-star Gary Stevens was released from the hospital three days after he fell from his horse and was nearly trampled at the Arlington Million in Arlington Heights, Ill.

Northwest Community Hospital spokesman Bob Niersbach said Stevens left Tuesday "in good condition."

The jockey fell from Storming Home just after crossing the finish line and was stepped on by a horse. He suffered a collapsed lung and a fractured vertebrae, and will be sidelined for a month.

In a telephone call Monday from his hospital room, Stevens told Laura Hillenbrand, author of "Seabiscuit: An American Legend," that he felt "near death" when he fell and thought he might be suffering a heart attack.

Hillenbrand said Stevens recalled telling paramedics: "I don't know what a heart attack feels like, but I think I'm having one."
