- Merlen Irving Andrus, age 76, surrounded by his loving children, returned peacefully to his Heavenly Father August 23, 2003.
Born in Salt Lake City, UT Dec 17, 1926 to William R. Andrus and Leah Alta Fitzgerald. Graduated from Jordan High School, 1945. Entered the U.S. Army, 1945. Married his high school sweetheart, Donna Lee Fairbourn, Aug 14, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was employed 25 years with the JC Penney Company; owned and operated Merlen's Family Apparel, Layton for 10 years; and was employed by ZCMI at the Layton Hills Mall until his retirement, 1996.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kaysville 18th Ward, where he held many positions, however, the position he cherished the most was husband and father.
He will be greatly missed by his children, Sue (Craig) Marshall, West Valley, UT, Brent (Charlotte) Andrus, Kaysville, UT, Richard (Kenna) Andrus, Boise, ID, Karen (Ken) Ballantyne, Moab, UT, Stephen (Alonna) Andrus, Kaysville, UT, William R. Andrus, Murray, UT, Kristin (Derek) Hougaard, Layton, UT; 22 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Julia Homer, Sandy, UT. He was preceded in death by his sweetheart, parents, brother and sister.
Services 2 p.m. Tues. Aug 26, 2003 Kaysville LDS 18th Ward Chapel, 1085 N. 50 E. Friends and family may call Mon. 6-8 p.m. Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N.
