1934 ~ 2003
Ruth Mae Andrews Buttars, beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family August 2, 2003 at age 68.
She was born Nov 2, 1934 in Logan, UT to Lawrence and Ida Andrews. She attended the Logan City schools and graduated from Utah State University in 1956 with a major in Elementary Education.
Ruth married Jack Anderson Buttars in the Logan LDS Temple Aug 10, 1956. They were looking toward celebrating their 47th wedding anniversary this year. Ruth and Jack had four children, Susan (Gilbert, AZ), Sharon (Los Angeles, CA), Jack, wife, Rebecca (Kaysville, UT), Julie (Seattle, WA); and three grandchildren (Mary-Kate, Jakob, Megan).
Ruth supported Jack while he completed his medical and military training by teaching school. She enjoyed teaching and she taught in Hyrum, UT, Los Angeles, CA, and Chicago, IL.
She had a love for music, dance, and art. She was very talented on the organ and the piano as well as an accomplished painter. Her interests also included international and statewide travel. Ruth particularly enjoyed traveling to church history sites including the Holy Land. Ruth loved nothing more than to spend time with her family and laugh. Ruth was a gifted seamstress, a caring homemaker, friend, and neighbor. She was an excellent businesswoman and excelled at real estate management.
Ruth was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many leadership callings. She served as ward Primary president and stake Primary president while living in Arizona. She served as stake Relief Society president in Meridian, ID under three stake presidents.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jack Anderson Buttars; children, Susan, Sharon, Jack (Rebecca), Julie; three grandchildren; brothers, Lawrence, Richard; and sister, Ludene; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of Ruth's life will be held through a viewing 7-9 p.m. Mon. Aug 4, 2003 Larkin Mortuary, Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S, Sandy, UT. Services 1 p.m. Tues. Aug 5, 2003 Alta View Stake Center (1850 E. 8600 S, Sandy, UT).
She will always be remembered and truly missed.
