"My Mike"
Loving husband, father, son, grandson, brother and friend, Mike Matthews, age 36, passed away unexpectedly August 1, 2003.
Mike was born Dec 9, 1966 in Logan, UT. He is survived by his wife, Julie; children, David and Sarah; his dog, Sonny; his father, Larry (Alayne) Matthews; his mother, Sally (Del) Thompson; siblings, Michele Sabel, Melissa Matthews, Amber Matthews, Tricia Holden, Shane (Lori) Holden, Kym (Eric) Cottrell, Eric Thompson, Dan (Sharon) Thompson, Patti (Ron) Hurst, Mic Thompson; grandparents Howard and Rada Matthews, Chester and Bessie Sams.
Mike graduated from Evanston High School in 1985. He served in the Japan Sapporo Mission 1986-88. Mike married Julie Bulpitt on Dec 29, 1990 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mike had a firm testimony of his Savior Jesus Christ, and served faithfully in the LDS Church in many leadership, teaching and musical callings. Mike spent his college years at BYU and then pursued a career in sales. His hobbies reflected his love of music, basketball and patriotism, and his creativity was evident in all he did. He will also be remembered for his Elton John impersonations and being a lifelong Lakers fan. Mike treasured the special relationship he had with his grandparents. Mike was the light in his children's eyes and the sparkle in their smiles. Mike was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral will be Tues. Aug 5, 2003, 11 a.m., at the Westland 10th Ward Chapel, 7645 S. 3200 W. Friends may call Mon. 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Rd, and Tues. at the church one hour prior to services. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
