Arnold Lester Slater Jr., 58, of Moab, passed away January 14, 2004 in his home of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.
He was born June 21, 1945 in San Francisco, CA to Arnold Paul and Sarah Vernetta Raine Slater. He married Hazel June Russell and was later divorced. He married Linda Keck and was later divorced.
Arnie grew up in Concord, California. He graduated from Mt. Diablo High School in 1962. Arnie joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War, serving on the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy. Upon his return he became a
journeyman electrician and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area for 37 years.
Upon retirement, Arnie moved to Moab, Utah where he enjoyed the outdoors: hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley. He had a passion for chocolate and was never seen without his faithful canine companion, Gidget.
He is survived by his son Robert of Byron, California; granddaughters: Cecily Marie and Ciarra Geraldine Slater. Additional survivors include his siblings: John (Mae) Slater, Bethel Island, CA; Tom (Liz) Slater, Heber City, UT; Ed Slater, Moab; Don Slater, Reno, NV; Bonnie (Steve) Rogers, Pleasant Grove; and Vernetta (Les) Parry, Pleasant Grove. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leo.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 19, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Orem Aspen Eighth Ward, 1485 N. 800 W., Orem. Interment will be in the Ephraim City Cemetery with military rites. Funeral directors-Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove, Utah.
