The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office Thursday night rescued a man from Neffs Canyon who was wet, drunk and starting to suffer from hypothermia.

The unidentified man, 25, and his friend began hiking about noon. They were drinking and, at one point, the man lay in the snow and got wet. By 6:30 p.m. he was unable to get himself out of the canyon and called the sheriff's office, Lt. Jay Southam said.

The man was rescued by 9 p.m. He was examined by paramedics and released to family members, Southam said.
