Philip "Phil" Peterson, 86, passed away January 19, 2004 in Salt Lake City of Pulmonary Fibrosis, surrounded by his loving wife, six daughters and many grandchildren and others who loved him.
He was born April 13, 1917 in Richfield, Utah, the son of Soren Daniel and Dosena Adalena Andersen Peterson. He was a lifelong, faithful member of the LDS Church. He served in the New Zealand Mission from 1938-1940. On his return, he met and married the love of his life, Margaret Sorensen, on July 14, 1942 in the Manti LDS Temple. They enjoyed 61 happy, satisfying years together; their marriage was one of unity, harmony and love. After retirement, together they served in the Ohio-Columbus, the Ohio-Akron and the Thailand-Bangkok Missions. He was blessed to serve in various church callings during his lifetime, among them Bishop of the Richfield 2nd Ward and Patriarch in the Richfield East Stake since 1977.
He was a graduate of Richfield High School and also attended the LDS Business College, Brigham Young University and Oklahoma A & M. He served three years in the US Army Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the Richfield City Council for eight years and Postmaster at the Richfield Post Office for 15 years. During his earlier years, he was a farmer and livestock man.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, their six daughters: Beverly of Enumclaw, WA; Janet (Lynn) of Houston, TX; Susan (Al) of Sandy; Mary Kay (Bob) of West Jordan; Marilyn (Craig) of Enumclaw, WA; Connie (Ray) of Houston, TX; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, LaVee and brothers, Adrian, Ferdie, Weldon and Murry.
His sister, Anna Wells of West Jordan is his sole surviving sibling.
Funeral services will be held on Sat., January 24, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Richfield 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, 801 N. 500 E. Friends may call at the Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary, 50 S. 100 W. on Fri. evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the 2nd Ward Chapel on Sat. morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery with Military Rites by the V.F.W. Sevier Post #5050.
