1927~2004

Leonard Orton Thayer, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle passed away peacefully at home, Sunday, January 25, 2004.

Leonard was born October 31, 1927, son of Benjamin Orton and Mary Wilson Thayer. He married Nida Jean Pyper, June 29, 1955 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with the addition of two beautiful daughters, Carrie (Lambert) and Adair (Allen).

Leonard graduated from South High School where he was an All-State athlete in Football, Basketball, and Track. He worked for Morrison-Knudsen, Agana, Guam, Utah Power & Light, and Retired as the Electrical Supervisor for the Department of Transportation, State of Utah.

Leonard was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving faithfully as Elders Quorum President, President of the Seventies Quorum, Sunday School Superintendent. He was involved in Ward-Stake Athletic Programs, as a Stake Missionary, and served in the High Priests Group Leadership. After his retirement, he and his wife served a full-time mission in the Mesa Arizona Temple Visitors Center.

Leonard was a hard worker, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed his assistance. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and grandfather who enjoyed his time attending the activities of his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed sports, hunting, fishing, and traveling. Leonard was currently serving as the President of the S&J (Gillmor) Duck Club.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nida; daughter, Adair Allen; sons-in-law Mark Lambert and Todd Allen; grandchildren Cacia, Colton, Bobbie, and Dallas Lambert; Emerald, Cardin, Ronan and Dutch Allen; and sister Mary Ann (Jay) Kesler. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ada (Earl) Pearson, and daughter Carrie Joy T. Lambert.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 29, 2004 at 12 p.m. at the Holladay 1st Ward, 4568 S. Holladay Blvd. Friends may call Wednesday, January 28 from 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, and from 10:45 11:45 Thursday at the church prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial park.
