NORTH OGDEN — Dr. Bart Wolthuis, 85, mayor of Ogden from 1966-73, died at his home Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004.

He emphasized integration of ethnic groups into the community during his two-term tenure as mayor and supported downtown redevelopment. He was also instrumental in the creation of the Marshall White Center and the Ogden Industrial Park.

A dentist by profession, he graduated from Weber College and the University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry. He served as a dental officer during World War II and then had a dental practice in Ogden for many decades. He was also a fellow in the International College of Dentists.

Dr. Wolthuis had also been on the Ogden City Council, a member of the University of Utah Hospital board of directors, a member of the Utah Board of Corrections and Rotary district governor.

Active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he had been a sealer in the Ogden Temple, a regional representative, stake president and bishop. He also received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Fruitland Chapel, 2250 N. Fruitland Drive, North Ogden. Friends may call on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Larkin Mortuary, 496 24th St., Ogden, and at the chapel from 10-10:45 a.m. before the services.
