- Ruth Redd Dart, age 79, passed away January 7, 2004 at her home in Price surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 15, 1924 in Price, UT to John Hardison and Veta Bryner Redd.

She married James M. Dart, Sr. on September 25, 1943 in Seattle, Washington; marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

While residing in the Seattle /Tacoma area during World War II, Ruth was employed at the Bon Marche Department Store in downtown Seattle as a comptometer operator in the personnel department. She also worked for the Todd Shipyards in Tacoma. After returning to Price, she spent her time raising her family whom she loved dearly. She was an excellent seamstress and loved to knit. She was involved in every aspect of her children's lives, supporting them as scorekeeper for the Price WBBA, encouraging them in their music education, and was always there to teach them the value of excellence in all their endeavors and the importance of service to others. As the children became more independent, Ruth helped provide support for the children's educational needs and missionary service by teaching scores of piano students from beginner to advanced. An accomplished musician with a passionate love of music, she played piano for many years with her husband in the "Jimmy Dart Orchestra" and sang with the New Century Double Trio at various civic and church events. She later was employed at the Parkdale Care Center and later at CEU Bookstore. She was intimately involved in the daily operation of KRPX-AM and KPRQ-FM radio stations in Price, helping her husband and sons fulfill a lifelong dream. As an active member of the LDS Church, she served as President of the Price 5th Ward Relief Society, and on the Relief Society Board in the Carbon Stake, as well as many other callings. Her family remembers her many acts of kindness to others.

Ruth is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years "Jimmy" of Price; and children, Diane (Randol) Potter of Salt Lake City; James (Diane) Dart, Jr. of Price; Richard (Dedee) Dart of Lakeville, MA; David Dart of Pasadena, CA; Merrilyn (George) Farish of Spring Glen; 16 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren plus one grandchild and four great-grandchildren on the way. Also survived by brother, John "Jack" Redd of Salt Lake City, and sisters, Ruby Harris of Orem; Marie Snow of Ogden.

Preceded in death by parents, two brothers, one sister; one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Sat., January 10, 2004, 12 noon in the, Price 4th/5th Ward Chapel, located at 545 E. 400 North in Price. Friends may call Friday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, and from 10:30 - 11:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment will be at the Price City Cemetery.
