1928 ~ 2004

Glen Fowler Ovard, age 76, died October 6, 2004 at the Orem Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Orem, Utah, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.

He was born July 24, 1928 in Henefer, Utah to Joseph William Ovard and Reta Fowler. He attended school in Henefer and Coalville, Utah. Glen graduated from North Summit High School in 1946. He received his Bachelor and Master degrees from Brigham Young University and his Doctorate in 1959, from Stanford University. He loved teaching and taught in elementary, high school, and at a number of universities. He was a high school counselor and principal. He was a professor at Brigham Young University where he served for 40 years in the Department of Education. He was the author of stories and poems for children, books, and professional texts.

Glen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many church positions; teacher, priesthood quorum leader, high councilor, and bishop. He lived an exemplary life.

Glen enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved fly-fishing, hunting, camping, writing, sports, and traveling with his family. He owned and operated a cattle ranch and dry farm. He designed and built his dream home in Provo and summer home in the Uintah Mountains.

Glen married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Bourne, on December 27, 1948. They were devoted partners raising seven children together. Glen's family was the most important part of his life. He leaves them a great legacy of love, service, dedication to family, and service to God that will forever be in their hearts.

Glen is preceded in death by his wife and best friend Beverly, and by his parents. He is survived by his seven children: Jacqueline O. (Virgil) Jacobsen, Pleasant Grove, UT; Kim F. (Anita) Ovard, Minden, NV; Ramona O. (Scott) Hopkins, Sandy, UT; David G. (Shelley) Ovard, Layton, UT; Roxann O. (Bradley) Wolfe, Sandy, UT; Kristi O. (Jim) Weeks, St. George, UT; and Mailani Ovard, Pleasant Grove, UT. He loved playing with and being involved in the lives of his 22 grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. He is also survived by his six brothers and sisters, many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express appreciation to the staff of the Jamestown Enhanced Care Unit in Provo, and the Orem Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Orem, for their care and devoted service given on Glen's behalf.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 3050 Mojave Lane, Provo, Utah. Friends may call Friday evening October 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 E. Center Street, Provo, Utah, as well as Saturday morning at the church from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Henefer Cemetery, Henefer, Utah.
