Mary Grover has found a niche in the home improvement industry — quick, simple, inexpensive techniques to give an instant update to any bedroom or bathroom.

All of which has made her a popular personality at home and design shows.

Her high energy and enthusiasm for life keeps audiences laughing during her presentations.

One of the things that has made her so popular is that she has discovered common mistakes many people make when it comes to decorating bedrooms or bathrooms.

Grover will give two seminars at the Deseret Morning News home show. The first is "How to build a beautiful, comfortable bed in 60 minutes or less," and the second is "How to create a spectacular bathroom in 60 minutes or less."

Grover has a background in interior design and began as a showroom designer in the bed and bath industry for major bed and bath manufacturers.

Her functional designs gained her national recognition. She went on to style bed and bath displays for large retail chain stores. Through her work in the retail industry, Grover noticed consumers making poor choices when selecting pillows, sheets, comforters, shower curtains and towels. She decided that she wanted to help people learn how to decorate their beds and bathrooms on a national scale.

"I have crusaded around the country to bring equality for men to the bedroom environment," said Grover. "Admittedly, women have won this decor power struggle, with frilly flower comforters and potpourri dominating the bedroom environment. I teach people how to transform their bedrooms and bathrooms into gender friendly environment."

In her first seminar, "How to create a beautiful, comfortable bed in 60 minutes or less," Grover will show attendees how to select the perfect pillow for sleeping, shop for sheets, care for linens, what to look for when purchasing featherbeds and down comforters and how to make designer pillows.

The "Bed and Bath Lady" will empower audiences to create their own department-store window bed that is functional and comfortable.

The second seminar is "How to create a spectacular bathroom in 60 minutes or less." According to Grover, the most important focal point of a bathroom is the shower curtain.

"Changing the shower curtain is like adding a fresh coat of paint to your bathroom," said Grover. A few more quick updates that will give the bathroom a new look and feel is the way the towels are folded and the type of towels that are used.

"Lighting and fixtures are crucial in creating a spectacular bathroom," she added. "Often times people overlook small details such as accessories and plants; these items make a huge impact."

Grover's presentations involve the audience by introducing crowd participation and a question-and-answer session.

"After attending my seminars, show guests will know how to enter a department store and purchase the right kind of pillows, sheets, comforters, towels and more," she said. "People are amazed at how a few simple tricks will make their bedrooms and bathrooms look like they hired a professional designer."

Seminar times are: Friday at 2:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.; Saturday at 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 12:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
