Delbert J. Williams, 86, passed away November 8, 2004 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Del was born March 18, 1918 to Jay P. and Frances Johnson Williams, in Chicago, Illinois. He married Ruth Laua Sealey on March 9, 1943 in Pocatello, Idaho. He was a loving, supportive husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was married 61 years to the love of his life, Ruth.

Del served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a POW from July 1943 until the end of the War. He was the Chief Engineer for KLUB/KISN Radio for over 30 years. As a devoted amateur radio operator (W7KSS) he connected relatives with GIs in Vietnam. He enjoyed ice hockey and was a long time season ticket holder of the Utah Grizzlies.

He is survived by his wife, children, Sue Onwuegbu (Obed), Kay Williams and Rick Williams (Annette); grandchildren Melody Onwuegbu-Guy (Curtis), Chinedum Onwuegbu, Chimso Onwuegbu (Tiffany), Uchechi Onwuegbu, Brandon Allen (Deanna) and Tiffany Williams; great-grandchildren Tyrie Onwuegbu-Guy, Justin Onwuegbu-Guy, Chidinma Onwuegbu, Tamia Onwuegbu, Ikechukwu Onwuegbu, Imari Onwuegbu and Brianna Allen. Preceded in death by his parents, sister Eleanor Williams and brother Bruce Williams.

The family thanks the staff at Woodland Park Care Center for their loving care and support and Odyssey Hospice.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 12, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary at 4670 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, where friends and family may visit Thursday, between 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the services. Interment will be at Holladay Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the University of Utah College of Nursing Scholarship Fund or to the Utah Grizzlies Children's Charity.
