1912 ~ 2004
Courtney Lamont Childs celebrated his 92nd birthday on December 8th. Bright and early on Sunday morning, December 12, 2004, he left to join his parents and his brother, C. Raymond Childs who died in January of 2004.
Courtney was born in Heber City, Utah, on December 8, 1912, to Clarence Moroni Childs and Harriet Rosetta Conrad and spent his youth in Gunnison, Utah, where he earned enough money from his paper route to buy his mother her first washing machine. He was a kind and generous man, always concerned with others needs.
He graduated from Wasatch High School in Heber City and LDS Business College. He married Alta Geneva Jones on November 23, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Salt Lake City, then Ogden for a year and Heber City for 10 years. The rest of their life together was spent in Bountiful, Utah. They are the parents of three daughters: LuCene, Annette, and Denece. Their spouses are, respectively, Hugh Hougaard, North Salt Lake; Don Beesley, Ogden; and Larry Tuttle, Grand Prairie, Texas.
Courtney was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions including that of a faithful home teacher. As long as his health allowed he was always busy, working around the house or yard, growing a huge garden and lovely roses to the delight of his neighbors.
Courtney worked as an office manager for The Exchange as well as for Turner Building Supply in Heber City, Certain-teed, Georgia Pacific, and Building Products in Salt Lake City, working until after his 72nd birthday.
He is survived by his wife, Alta, his sister Marjorie C. Teichert of Provo, his three daughters as well as 13 grandchildren and 49 great-grand-children.
