One of BYU's most prolific rushers, Jamal Willis, has been hired as an academic counselor to BYU's football program.
"I'm stoked and looking forward to working there," Willis said Monday, confirming the hire. "I've been trying to get back at BYU for the past three or four years, and this is a dream come true for me."
Willis finished playing for the Cougars in 1994 and became the school's all-time rushing leader with 2,970 yards. He then played for the San Francisco 49ers, a professional career that ended in 1998. He worked for two seasons as the head football coach at Payson High before obtaining his master's degree. He worked as a counselor in the Jordan School District this past year.
Willis will be given a full job description next week with all the details, but for now, he has been told he will work as an academic counselor and be assigned to interact with the football team 100 percent of his time.
