1908 ~ 2004
FRANKLIN, IDAHO<! > - Marlow C. Woodward, 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones and joined his eternal sweetheart, Vella, Tuesday March 9, 2004.
He was born March 11, 1908 in Franklin, Id. to Cecil Woodward and Bertha Tryphena Crandall. He was the second of eight children. He attended Franklin City schools and later graduated from Franklin High School. He always enjoyed learning and attended the Utah Agricultural College where he earned his degree.
Marlow and Vella met at college before he was called to serve an LDS mission in Germany. Vella waited for his return and they were later married Sept. 2, 1931 in the Salt Lake Temple. They worked side by side until her passing on May 25, 1997.
After their marriage, Marlow taught school in Springfield and Mink Creek, Idaho. He later entered the poultry business which grew until becoming the current Ritewood Egg and Oakdell Egg Farms, which is spread throughout the Western United States.
Marlow was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served diligently in many capacities.
He was a member of the sons of the Utah Pioneers and was a life-time Scouter with a great love and support for the Boy Scouts of America, who honored him with the Silver Beaver award. Since its inception, Marlow and Vella supported the Ezra Taft Benson Food and Agricultural Institute as well as many education programs through gifts to both Utah State and Brigham Young University.
They are parents of one daughter, Ruth Woodworth of Spokane. They also helped raise one nephew and three nieces, Bruce Heaps (deceased) his wife Liz, Shirley and her husband Steve Gracke of Denver, CO; Vella and husband Blaine Durrant of Lewiston, Utah and Alberta and her husband Maurice Mather of Smithfield, Utah. He has 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Also by his sisters Ruth Jamison of Provo; and Leah Warnick Meredith of American Fork; and brother Boyd Woodward and wife Margaret of St. George. He was preceded in death by his wife Vella, sisters Gladys LeFevre, Blanche Harris, and Norma Woodward, and his brother Paul Woodward.
Funeral services will be held Saturday March 13, 2004 at 12:00 noon, in the Franklin Stake Center with Bishop Douglas Porter conducting. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston, Idaho, and Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the stake center. Interment, Franklin Cemetery.
