Melvina Jane Hanks Greer, 93, died peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Melva was born on Dec. 30, 1910 to Charles Rich and Alice Jane Lance Hanks in Hanksville, Utah, which was settled by and named for her grandfather Ebenezer Hanks. Her family moved to Green River, Utah during her teenage years, where she met the love of her life Ab Edward Greer. They were married on Sep. 30, 1928. Ab and Melva later settled in Salt Lake City, Utah, with their four children. Melva was a master quilter, seamstress, homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and Matriarch of five generations. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Melva was an active member of The Daughters of Utah Pioneers and participated in the compilation of many Pioneer Histories.

Melva is survived by three of her seven sisters, Ada Christenson, Grand Junction, CO; Charlotte (Jack) Erwin, Green River, UT; and Eva Stone, Salt Lake City, UT; her sons and daughter, Charles E. (Barbara) Greer, Mesa, AZ; Gladys J. (Robert) Schoppe, Salt Lake City, UT; Robert N. (Debra) Greer, Sandy, UT; Guy L. (Judy) Greer, Sandy UT; 18 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four sisters. Melva endeared herself to all she met through her kind, generous, and hard-working spirit and positive attitude. Her family and friends will miss her greatly.

Funeral services will be on Monday, March 15, 2004, 2 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 So. where a viewing will be held Sunday 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. The family would like to thank Vista Care for the loving care and especially to Nurse John and Christy for their love they gave to our Mother.
