Forever in Our Hearts
Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, George Leonard Sorenson, age 70, passed away March 18, 2004 at home surrounded by his family. We were honored to have such a giving and loving husband and father with a rare quality for generosity, kindness and a great sense of humor.
Born August 4, 1933 in Pleasant Grove, Utah, son of Floyd Rancel and Ruth Fawcett Sorenson. He was a member of the LDS Church. Married Colleen Woolley September 7, 1951 in Pleasant Grove, Utah. They shared 52 wonderful years together. He served his country in the United States Army; 5th Infantry Division. Dad was employed for 25 years at Kennecott Copper where he made many lasting friendships, especially on the bowling and golfing leagues. Following his retirement in 1985, he worked for Carriage Square, Valley Fair Mall and Fashion Place Mall, where he enjoyed the company of his co-workers. In his spare time, he enjoyed the Utah Jazz, BYU Cougars, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, bald eagles and was the ultimate handyman. He adored his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and found great joy spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Colleen; children: Russell (Susan), Cheryll Everett, Roland (Joy), Kerry, and Laurie (Rick) Ahlstrom; 12 grand-children; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth and Larry; sisters, Betty Rose, Lois Combest and Linda Bowers. He was preceded in death by his son, Wayne; brothers, Rancel and Wesley; and sister, Dorothy.
Funeral services will be held Monday, 12 noon at the Granger Harvest Park Ward, 3671 So. Oldham (4180 West - follow the signs off 40th West and 3860 South to get to the church). Family and friends may visit Sunday, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 So. Redwood Road and Monday at the church, 11-11:45 a.m. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
