1903 ~ 2004

Rachel Cannon Heninger born April 17, 1903 in Salt Lake City, Utah to George Jenkins Cannon and Lucy Grant Cannon died March 3rd 2004.

She obtained her schooling in Salt Lake City and graduated from the LDS. High School and the McCune school of Music. She received her B.A. degree from the University of Utah where she was active in musical productions and Chi Omega Sorority.

She married Owen P. Heninger in June 1926 and lived in Magrath, Alberta Canada, Chicago, Los Angeles, Safford Arizona, Salt Lake City and then Provo where she spent the last 64 years of her life. She was active in civic and social organizations including the State and County Medical Auxiliaries, Beta Sorosis Literary Club and the Women's council of Provo. She was a member of the Provo City School Board, Provo Recreation Board, and Community Concert Board. She was a piano teacher, and she was active in the music scene in Provo, in addition to enjoying hand work and gardening. Her central focus in life was her involvement in the support and nurturance of her family, including her parents and their extended families, her sisters and brothers, her children, her grandchildren and great-grand-children.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Owen P. Heninger, her daughter Mary H. Mitchell, and sisters Florence C. Snow, Irene C. Lloyd, and Jean C. Willis. She is survived by her sons Dr. Owen E. Heninger and wife Audrey of Whittier, CA; Dr. George R. Heninger and wife Julie of Hamden Conn.; and John C. Heninger of Provo; her sister Lucy D. Taylor and husband Frank, and brothers George I. Cannon and wife Isabel and H. Stanley Cannon and wife Virginia all of Salt Lake City. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grand-children.

The family thanks the staff at the Beehive House at 800 East in Orem and Hospice for their compassionate care of Rachel.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on March 20th at the Berg Mortuary 185 E. Center St., Provo.
