Harmons Grocery Stores is launching a new fuel savings program in its five stores with Fuel Stops in the Salt Lake area.

Customers can save on gasoline by buying specially marked Fuel Buys grocery items in Harmons' West Valley, Midvale, Kearns, South Jordan and Draper stores. The company said customers potentially could pay as little as 1 cent per gallon if they buy enough Fuel Buys items during one shopping trip.

The Fuel Buys savings tickets are good for up to 15 gallons of gasoline within 30 days of purchase. The savings tickets are valid only at the Fuel Stop location where the Fuel Buys groceries were purchased.

During Fuel Buys launch week starting today, the five Fuel Buys stores will feature refreshments, prizes and special events sponsored by local radio stations. Harmons will be educating customers in the stores about the new program and offering help at their fuel pumps for first-time Fuel Buys customers.

Harmons previously offered customers a 5-cent discount per gallon of gas with a $25 grocery purchase. Fuel Stops will honor those tickets until they expire.
