The Utah Highway Patrol received 25,000 gun locks and will give them away to the public starting today.

From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. the gun locks will be available at all Wal-Mart stores in Utah except at the "neighborhood market" grocery stores in Draper, South Jordan, Layton and South Ogden. Troopers will give out 1,000 to 1,200 gun locks Saturday.

The locks were given to the UHP by Project ChildSafe, an organization funded by Congress and private donors that aims to make homes with firearms safer.

Those who cannot go to a Wal-Mart on Saturday can pick up a gun lock at a store during normal business hours after Monday.
