RAIDERS, COLLINS TALK: The Oakland Raiders have had serious discussions with quarterback Kerry Collins about joining the team.
Collins met with Raiders officials for two days at team headquarters earlier this month and has been in touch with the team in recent days.
"He was here two weeks ago," Raiders spokesman Artie Gigantino said Sunday. "Right now, nothing's been done. It would be premature to say he's going to sign."
The 31-year-old Collins had a physical with the Raiders and met with coaches but didn't work out. The nine-year NFL veteran was released by the New York Giants four days after they acquired No. 1 draft pick Eli Manning from the San Diego Chargers.

BURNETT ON MEND: Florida Marlins right-hander A.J. Burnett passed another test in his comeback from reconstructive elbow surgery Sunday.
Pitching for Class-A Jupiter of the Florida State League, Burnett allowed two hits and one unearned run in four innings during a rehabilitation start.
His next outing is tentatively scheduled for Friday with Double-A Carolina or Triple-A Albuquerque. He could be back in the Marlins' rotation by June 2 against Cincinnati.
Burnett, relying mostly on fastballs, threw 78 pitches, 50 for strikes. He struck out four, walked two and threw two wild pitches.
Burnett had Tommy John surgery on April 29, 2003, after four pain-filled starts. He was 12-9 with a 3.30 ERA, 203 strikeouts and five shutouts in 2002.
Including a rehab start last week in an extended spring training game, Burnett hasn't allowed an earned run in 8 1-3 innings.

CAVS STOP TIGERS: Virginia defeated two-time defending champion Princeton 10-4 to win the NCAA women's lacrosse championship Sunday behind four goals by Amy Appelt and three by Caitlin Banks.
Virginia (19-3) ended Princeton's 28-game winning streak to earn its third NCAA title. It was the Cavaliers' first championship since beating Princeton in the 1993 finals and avenged an overtime loss to the Tigers in last year's championship game.
Appelt's third goal was the 200th of her career and gave the junior her 20th hat trick of the season.
Princeton (19-1) was seeking its fourth national crown and became the fourth team to lose a title game it entered with an undefeated record. The Tigers beat the Cavaliers 12-9 during the regular season.

OLY QUALIFIERS: Conal Groom pulled ahead of Adam Holland with two strokes left to win the men's single sculls finals Sunday at the non-qualified Olympic small boat trials on Lake Mercer.
Groom advanced to the Olympic qualification regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland, on June 13-16. Groom lost to Holland by 0.25 seconds Friday and forced a third race after winning by 0.24 seconds Saturday. On Sunday, his time was 7:09.65 while Holland finished in 7:20.01.
Groom went ahead near the finish line, and Holland collapsed in his boat as Groom passed him.
Groom, who lives and trains in Seattle, had hoped to open a lead by the 500-meter mark and withstand the kind of late charge Holland used to win Friday's race.
"Coming through the (final) 500, I just started putting out everything I had, which I already knew wasn't much," said Groom, who finished 11th in the lightweight double sculls in the 2000 Olympics. "I already wasted too much energy. If he had any more gas, I'm not sure I could have lasted a couple of more strokes."
Groom estimates he was 6 inches ahead when Holland fell back in his boat.
"I think we went a little too fast for the conditions, trying to break each other early in the race," Groom said. "It was just complete exhaustion."
Holland, a 1996 Olympic qualifier in men's pair, admitted he had nothing left.
