1917 ~ 2004

Elaine Bott Stubbs, 87, peacefully passed away May 5, 2004 at 4:20 a.m. at home surrounded by loving family.

Elaine was born February 24, 1917 in Provo, Utah to Valdemar Viggo and Marie Nelson Bott. She attended Schools in Provo. She graduated from Provo High School with honors and received the Knight Mangum Scholarship to Brigham Young University. She was chosen Representative Girl her senior year. She also received medals for personal and team competition in bookkeeping, as a member of the shorthand team, historian staff and was Vice President of her senior class. She attended Brigham Young

University.

She married J. Fred Stubbs January 4, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. After only 26 years of marriage, he was called home to prepare a heavenly mansion for Elaine.

She was a very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings within the church. Elaine loved the Relief Society, serving as president in her ward and later starting Relief Societies in two separate rest homes where she then served for 30 years. The residents loved her as much as she loved them. She also did name extractions for many years.

Elaine was a social member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers where she gave and found much love and friendship.

She loved to garden and give the "vegetables of her labors" to those around her. She did not like to see a weed anywhere. She was found with a hoe and spray bottle just a few days before her death.

Elaine was a loving, beautiful, uplifting, and very cheerful person who showed all of her posterity how to live by example. She was known as "Sunshine" since a little girl, thanks to her "sunniness" and sweet disposition. She truly had a sweet, pleasant way about her. She is an example of what one person can do to lift and inspire an entire family. She made sure to attend every special event that happened to her children and grandchildren, and that meant so much to them. Her grandchildren always insisted to her embarrassment that she had by far the best legs in the family.
