Robert Noyce's article on the D-Day invasion force ("GI Joe 1944," June 4) states: "The draft called up men ages 21-35, although those as young as 18 could enlist. The average age was 26."

With a multitude of other 18-year-old young men, I was drafted and reported to Fort Douglas Dec. 23, 1942. That call-up included 19- and 20-year-olds. My judgment is the average man who made the D-Day invasion was younger than 26, the average age in the article.
