1919 ~ 2004

Vera Jean Noyes Jones passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 9, 2004, in Provo, Utah, after spending her birthday with family and friends.

Vera Jean was born in Salt Lake City on June 8, 1919, to Lucien and Celeste Salisbury Noyes. In 1927 she moved with her mother and sisters, Faye (Stoker) and Merle (Gaisford) to Los Angeles. There she met her lifelong sweetheart and companion, J. Talmage Jones. They were married in the Mesa AZ Temple June 21, 1940.

Vera Jean and Talmage are remembered for their dedicated service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Vera Jean served as Relief Society president of the Pasadena Stake (76-78). She was a companion to Talmage as he presided over the Western Canadian Mission (64-67), the Singapore Mission (79-81), and the London Missionary Training Center (85-86); and as he served as a Regional Representative in Southern California. Vera Jean and Talmage were also temple workers in the Los Angeles and St. George temples.

Vera Jean was active in the California-Utah Women and in 1988 received the association's Heritage Award for her exemplary service to her community, her church, and her family.

She will be remembered for her dazzling smile; her devotion and support to her husband and family; her dedication to the gospel; her wonderful parties, meals, and family reunions; her generosity and compassion, and her loving and sweet nature.

Vera Jean is survived by her sister, Merle, Sacramento, CA; her children: Christopher (Louise) of Newport Beach, CA; Robert (Sharon) of Glendora, CA; Jennifer Jacobsen (Lloyd), Lehi; Marilyn Williams (Craig), Scottsdale, AZ; Talmage (Debbie) Rancho Cucamonga, CA; Paul (Colleen), Orem; and David (Kim) of Thousand Oaks, CA; 30 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 17, 11 a.m. at the Las Flores Ward Chapel (at Kaufman and Longden), Temple City, CA. Friends may call 9:30-10:30 a.m. Internment at the San Gabriel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the General Missionary Fund of the LDS Church.
