WEST VALLEY CITY — An 18-month-old girl who was run over by a delivery van driven by her uncle died at the hospital Saturday night.
Police identified the girl as Jessica Motzkus, West Valley City.
Motzkus was playing with other children at a house near 3800 South and 5200 West when she wandered into the driveway as her 43-year-old uncle was reversing the van, West Valley Police Sgt. Steve Angell said. The van did not have side windows. "There really was no way he could have seen her," Angell said.
The girl was hit, and medical personnel worked on her at the scene before she was airlifted to Primary Children's Medical Center about 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Shortly after, she was pronounced dead. She suffered from massive head trauma, Angell said.
The death was considered an accident, Angell said.
