"Beloved Mother"
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Nona Holt Smith, age 87, passed away peacefully from causes incident to age at the home of her daughter in Riverton on Monday, May 31, 2004.
Nona was born March 26, 1917 in South Jordan to Henry and Bertha Wardle Holt. She married her high school sweetheart, Dale Terry Smith on December 23, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death on November 14, 1994. She lived her childhood years in South Jordan, and graduated from Jordan High School. She attended Beauty School before marrying and settling down in Draper, where they spent many good years.
Her posterity was her life. Her actions spoke louder than her words. She served as a support and partner in the family business "Dale T. Smith & Sons." She was small in stature but a giant in service to her family and anyone in need. She served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and especially loved working in the Primary. She served a mission with her husband Dale, in Duckwater, Nevada and loved working with the Lamanite
people.
She is survived by her children: Janice (Jasper Shaffer, Garland), Sharon (LaVar Burton, West Jordan), Dianne (Steven Roden, Mapleton), Dale E. Smith (Joanne, Draper), Darrell H. Smith (Launi, Draper), Nedra (David Oliver, Draper), Dennis H. Smith (Cathy, South Jordan), Carol Smith (daughter-in-law, Delta), Paula (Ron Jensen, Riverton); she has 39 grandchildren and 85 great-grand-children; also survived by sisters, Virginia Mitchell, Maxine Sharp, Alice Mazuran, and sister-in-law, Norma Lee Holt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Terry Smith; son, Brent; son-in-law, George F. Nelson; great-granddaughters, Shadi and Courtni Kalt; parents, Henry and Bertha Holt; sister, Bernice Simpson; brother, Darrell Holt.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 5, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Draper Utah Stake Center, 13085 South 300 East. Friends may call at the church Friday 6-8 p.m. or Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment, Draper Cemetery. Funeral Directors, Goff Mortuary.
The family wishes to express their love and gratitude to her daughter, Paula, and her family for their gentle love and care of our mother for the past two years; and special thanks to IHC Hospice.
