4/24/24 ~ 6/16/04

An angel came directly from Heavenly Father on April 24, 1924 and was born unto mortal life. That special angel was Lorna Luella Norton Johnsen, who returned to her heavenly treasures laid in store for her in heaven on Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Lorna was born in Spring Glen, Utah to Frank Antone Norton and Clista Louisa Davis Norton, her parents whom she honored and cherished all of her life. Quite often she happily stated that she thought it was wonderful that she was born in the same log cabin where her mother was also born. She married her sweetheart and love of her life, Ferris Mehner Johnsen, for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on Sept. 20, 1951.

Lorna was Stake Relief Society President in Japan and actively served in all auxiliaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved to sing all of her life and performed with the Sweet Adellines of Bountiful, Utah when they won the National Champion Chorus on April 16, 1972. She sang in many other choirs and choruses in Salt Lake and Bountiful. Being a compassionate person, she volunteered many hours of service at the Utah State Library for the Blind beginning December 1988 through April 1994. She volunteered her time and talents at many other organizations, including the University of Utah Medical Center and Hospital.

Lorna was an outstanding seamstress, creating the finest of clothing. She had great talent in using her skillful hands to "paint" beautiful pictures with needle and thread. She deeply appreciated fine music and fine art. Her extraordinary oil paintings speak loudly of her artistic talents and those who possess them hold them dear to their hearts.

Lorna resided in many countries around the world while her husband was on military duty with the United States Air Force. Showing great devotion to one's country, during the 1940's Lorna served her country with great patriotism during World War II in the service of the United States Navy as a member of the W.A.V.E.S. (Women's Auxiliary Volunteer Enlisted Service).

Family always came first with our dear mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, and most of all our best friend. Gone from our eyes while we tarry here on earth is that radiant smile and the velvet-soft eyes that sparkled. Yes, dear one, you were beautiful to look upon, but even more impressive and priceless was your beauty from within. Thank you for all you have been and are yet to become in eternity.

She is survived by her husband, Ferris Mehner Johnsen, Salt Lake City; son, Kent Antone Johnsen, (Sandra) Newark, Delaware; daughter, Tauna Jacobsen, Alpine, Utah; sister, Cleo Norton Johnson, (E. Blaine), Ogden, Utah; six granddaughters, Lauren, Shelley, Angela, Sheila, Emily, and Noel; five brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their deep gratitude to wonderful friends and neighbors, the Vista Hospice, the Visiting Angels, and to all who assisted Lorna 24-7 when she was no longer able to care for herself.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, at 12:00 noon, June 26, 2004 at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah, where friends may call from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Family and friends may call at the mortuary on Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted by the Utah State Library for the Blind, 250 North 1950 West, Salt Lake City, Utah 84116-7901.
