Married Tammy Nielsen, later divorced. He then married the love of his life Ruth Ann Hanson on April 23, 1988. He obtained the rank of Sergeant and received several decorations including a National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Purple Heart, a Good Conduct Medal, and two O/S Bars. He then began his career in the Murray City Police in February of 1970 as a reserve officer. He was sworn in as a full time patrol officer in September of 1972. He was later assigned to the K-9 division where he served three years. In 1985 he was assigned to the Detectives Division and was awarded

"Officer of the Year" in 1986.

From 1993-1996 he was assigned to the DEA Metro Narcotics Task Force. In 1993 he attended the FBI Academy Diversion School in Quantico, Virginia. In 1994 he attended DEA Drug Certification School and was sworn in as a special agent by former Attorney General Janet Reno. He returned to the Murray Police Department in May of 1997 where he was promoted to Master Officer. In July of 2000 he was reassigned to the Detectives Division where he served until his retirement in April of 2002.
