Bill Parcells won't be fined by the NFL for calling surprise plays used in practice "Jap plays," a remark for which he later apologized and called inappropriate.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Tuesday that no action would be taken by the league against the Dallas Cowboys coach.
Parcells made the remark, an apparent reference to the Japan's 1941 surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, while talking to reporters during the Cowboys' minicamp Monday.
Later in the day, Parcells issued a statement apologizing.
"I made a very inappropriate reference, and although I prefaced it with the remark, 'no disrespect to anyone intended,' it was still uncalled for and inconsiderate," Parcells said in the statement. "For that I apologize to anyone who may have been offended."
MILI IN CAMP: Seattle Seahawks tight end and former Cougar Itula Mili rejoined the team Tuesday after skipping the first day of a voluntary minicamp because of a contract dispute.
Mili also was absent for all of a mandatory camp last month, leading to an undisclosed fine.
"I'm just glad to be back on the field," Mili said. "I'll let the business-side take care of itself and do what I do best."
Mili is entering the final year of a three-year deal and is scheduled to make $725,000 in 2004.
His agent, Brian Treggs, told The Seattle Times on Monday that Mili was seeking "fair market value." He's believed to be seeking a contract similar to the $15 million, five-year deal Minnesota tight end Jim Kleinsasser signed this year. Mili wouldn't disclose the specifics of his contract dispute with the Seahawks, simply saying he was ready to play.
"The only thing I know how to do is make plays, make touchdowns and all that," Mili said.
The seven-year veteran from BYU caught 46 passes for four touchdowns and 492 yards last season. He has 89 receptions the past two seasons.
OTHER MOVES: Cornerback Terrell Buckley signed Tuesday with the New England Patriots. The 12-year veteran played a total of 31 games with the team in 2001 and 2002. He spent last season with Miami.
Keith Newman signed on Tuesday with Minnesota after playing with Atlanta last season.
Former Georgia Tech receiver Jonathan Smith, the second of Buffalo's two seventh-round draft picks, signed with the Bills on Tuesday.
The St. Louis Rams have re-signed tight end Cam Cleeland, who had 10 catches for 145 yards last year.
