1931 ~ 2004

Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Joan Blackhurst Spencer, died July 15, 2004 in Salt Lake City.

She was born March 28, 1931 in Salt Lake City, the second of four children and the daughter of Edwin W. and Esther Huhl Blackhurst. She married Claron Chipman Spencer September 10, 1952 and they became the parents of five children. Joan's life was spent in service to her family, the church, and her friends.

Joan was true and faithful in many church positions throughout her life including in Lambda Delta Sigma, as secretary/treasurer of the Relief Society and in missions in Florida, East Malaysia, and New Zealand. Most recently she and her husband served as temple workers at the Washington, D.C. Temple.

Joan was truly selfless. She shared her many talents through singing with the Utah Oratorio Society and creating works of art; sewing, knitting, and needle work for her children, grandchildren, and friends. Her greatest joy was in being a kind and loving companion and friend.

She is survived by her husband, Claron; children, Claron B. (Chip) (Caroline), Salt Lake City, Shauna, Silver Spring, Maryland, Stephen B. (Wendy), Salt Lake City, Timothy B., Dresden, Germany, Mary Jane Snyder (Michael), Arlington, Virginia; 10 grandchildren, Weston (Ashley), Abigail, Max, Lauren, Sam, Daniel, Wolfgang, Truman, Tao, and Roxanna, all of whom she adored; and brothers, Robert H. and David H.
