MYTON, Duchesne County — Jake L. Rasmussen, 18, of Myton was killed in a rollover early Sunday morning.

Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Carlos Reed said Rasmussen had left a party and was driving his convertible Chevy Blazer southbound about 70 mph when it crossed the northbound lane, went into a ditch and traveled 360 feet before flipping over and ejecting Rasmussen.

The open-roofed SUV vaulted into the air, flipped end-to-end and threw Rasmussen about 60 feet before coming to rest upside down, Reed said.

Rasmussen was taken to the Uintah Basin Medical Center, then transported by Life Flight to LDS Hospital where he died a few hours later from head injuries, Reed said.

Reed said excessive speed and alcohol use were likely involved in the accident.
