HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania lawmakers approved legislation Sunday authorizing up to 61,000 slot machines — more than any other state except Nevada — in an effort to raise money for property tax reductions and public projects.
The measures, expected to be signed by Gov. Ed Rendell today, legalize slot-machine gambling and finance $1 billion a year in property-tax reductions for homeowners.
"It is a substantial reduction for our citizens, no matter how we cut it," said state Rep. Kevin Blaum, a Democrat.
