Despite how awful the trailers make it appear, "White Chicks" is not the worst comedy of all time — or even the worst released this century. (That honor — or is it dishonor? — falls, so far, to "Freddy Got Fingered," the Tom Green vanity vehicle that was so painfully unfunny it qualified as an "anti-comedy.")
"White Chicks" is just the worst film released so far this year, which means it's painfully unfunny in its own right. Also, it may be the most singularly offensive film to come along in quite some time. Not just because of the film's stereotyping of whites, but because some material will likely offend black and Hispanic audiences, as well. Of course, just because the film is an equal-opportunity offender doesn't mean it should be let off the hook.
The younger Wayans brothers, Marlon and Shawn, co-wrote and star, respectively, as Marcus and Kevin Copeland, two FBI agents who are disgraced when a big bust goes awry. Looking to get back into good graces with their boss (Frankie Faison), the two volunteer for a "baby-sitting" assignment, guarding the Wilson sisters, two spoiled, rich hotel heiresses (Anne Dudek and Maitland Ward, parodying the Hilton sisters).
The FBI suspects the two may be kidnapped and has set up a "sting" to catch the would-be kidnappers. Unfortunately, the ladies have suffered a few scrapes in an auto mishap and don't want to go anywhere. So it's up to Marcus and Kevin to disguise themselves as the Wilsons and draw the criminals out.
It's not even a funny premise, but the Wayans brothers (oldest brother Keenen Ivory directed this mess) stoop to new lows to eke out even one laugh. When they run out of racist humor, they turn to toilet humor.
As for the performances, suffice it to say that everyone involved should be embarrassed.
"White Chicks" is rated PG-13 for crude humor, including references to and gags about bodily and sexual functions, violence (gunplay, fisticuffs and slapstick), occasional use of strong profanity and racial epithets, drug content (including use of the so-called "date-rape" drug), and brief nudity (bodily appliances). Running time: 110 minutes.
