USANA Amphitheatre will get a double dose of guitar-based, straightforward rock Tuesday night.
The Canadian quartet Nickelback rolls into West Valley City with openers Puddle of Mudd.
Anyone who paid even a little attention to the radio or MTV over the past two years has heard at least one song from each group.
Nickelback's "How You Remind Me" from their sophomore album "Silver Side Up" was the most-played song on the radio in 2002 across all formats, according to Billboard. That same year, Puddle of Mudd earned a similar distinction with their song "Blurry" off their debut album "Come Clean," which became the most-played song on modern rock radio and won the ASCAP award for most-played song of the year.
Although both bands have cooled a little since their monster year in 2002, they're still making noise.
Nickelback, led by brothers Chad (vocals/guitar) and Mike Kroeger (bass), sold over 9 million copies worldwide of "Silver Side Up." In addition to the most-played song, Billboard also determined Nickelback was the most-played rock artist across all radio formats in 2002.
Their latest release, 2003's "Long Road," features "Someday" and their latest single "Feelin' Way Too Damn Good." The band has been on the road for about a year in support of the album, including a lengthy summer tour with 3 Doors Down. Their Utah concert is one of their final stops of the year, with the tour ending Sept. 5.
Puddle of Mudd, led by vocalist Wesley Scantlin, stormed onto the music scene in 2001 with "Come Clean," an album that sold more than 5 million copies and produced four No. 1 singles on the modern rock charts.
Their sophomore effort, "Life on Display," was released last November and contains the single "Away From Me."
Tuesday night's show starts at 7 p.m.
