The Children's Theatre of Salt Lake recently received a $15,000 donation from Mervyn's, earmarked for CTSL's innovative reading program, which motivates youths in the community to take an active interest in reading. The theater offers half-price daytime school matinees of productions based on popular children's books. Over the past 16 years, the program has reached more than 250,000 Wasatch Front children.

Due to popular demand, the company has also scheduled additional public performances of its most recent production, "Where the Wild Things Are" on Oct. 22-23.

The theater company focuses on "family entertainment," but suggests that parents should use caution when bringing young children to this production due to its subject matter. While warning that the tale is calculated to "make your blood run cold," if patrons have any left to spare the company is joining with the Red Cross to host a blood drive on Oct. 16. All donors will receive a free ticket to the production.

"AN EVENING WITH EVE ENSLER," a one-woman show featuring the controversial author, playwright and social activist, kicks off the 2004-05 season for the Park City Performing Arts Foundation in the Eccles Center, 1750 Kearns Blvd., Park City.

Ensler is best known for her off Broadway play "The Vagina Monologues." She is about to open a new play next month on Broadway in the Booth Theatre, "The Good Body," a solo work that apparently extends her very "adult" repertoire to additional female body parts. It's been described as an examination of "why women the world over feel pressured and compelled to alter the way they look to fit into society."

There are no details, but the Park City performance is likely to contain some offensive material. The performance is Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15-$30 (435-655-3114).
