Mary Rachel Blakemore Thomas 7/3/1924 ~ 1/9/2005 Mary Rachel Blakemore Thomas passed away January 9, 2005 in Salt Lake City. Born July 3, 1924 in Birmingham, England to Sarah Ann Parkes and Samuel Blakemore. Her parents passed away while Mary was a young girl and she was raised by her Aunt Maud Blakemore and William John Dyson. Mary served in the NAFI during World War II in England as a cooking instructor. She met a young soldier named William Ivor Thomas of Llanelli, Wales and they were married September 8, 1945. Mary and Ivor left England after the war to settle in the United States in 1950. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Mary served in several church callings throughout her life. She received much joy as the Primary chorister in her ward. She also served as Young Women president and several Relief Society callings. Her compassion for others was evident in her every day life. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, William Ivor Thomas. She is survived by daughter, Susan Mary Thomas (Jim) Owen; son, Jeffrey Ivor (Annette) Thomas; grandchildren, Nichole Marie Owen, Spencer James Owen, and Chelsee Lauren Thomas and Joshua Henry Thomas. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, 12:00 noon, at the Willow Creek 1st Chapel, 2115 E. Sublett Place (8455 S). Friends may call the day of the service at the church from 11-11:45 a.m. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery. Cannon Mortuary Funeral Directors.
